What is it?
IP Broadcasting is a suite of solutions providing IP based, high definition video transport for broadcasters including Sky News, Sky Sports News, MTV and Comedy Central.
With the needs of viewers becoming more sophisticated and expectations of real time reporting, high definition and 3D placing increasing demands on the network, the use of IP over traditional SDH and ATM networks has enabled a step change in broadcasting. Using IP based networks can provide significant savings compared to legacy technology and can be designed for high reliability with no single point of failure.
Easynet has pioneered the delivery of IP based high definition broadcasts and has successfully delivered high profile events such as the broadcast of President Obama’s inauguration in 2009 and the UK election leaders’ debate in 2010.
How does it work?
Easynet provides broadcasters with three solutions based on industry leading video codecs and our global network infrastructure:
- IP Contribution – live or near live transmission of video from the field or fixed locations such as regional studios or sports grounds to a head-end site with the broadcasters main studios, editing and production suites
- IP Distribution – transmission of post-production video from the broadcaster head-end site to uplink facilities such as a satellite earth station for onward transmission to end users
- IP Adaptation – transmission of interactive rich media content from the digital interactive services (Red Button) to the broadcaster
