JANET(UK) signs up Easynet Global Services for enhanced broadband capabilities
Following a recent joint procurement with E2BN, JANET(UK) has contracted Easynet Global Services with the delivery of a new broadband network in a three-year contract worth £4.5m.
Schools, Local Authorities, Further and Higher Education Colleges in the East of England will benefit from an enhanced broadband experience following the decision by JANET(UK) and E2BN to bring together the communities of the existing EastNet and E2BN networks to provide a unified resource across the region.
Awarding this contract reflects Easynet’s ability to deliver a safe, outstanding educational I.T. experience for students across the East of England. Whilst Easynet has previously provided connectivity to schools and to the Regional Broadband Consortia in the area, to be selected as a partner by JANET(UK) means that its provision within the education sector will be even wider reaching.
As demand for broadband usage continues to increase significantly in the East of England, this cost effective solution, which will provide a tenfold increase in capacity from 1Gbit/s to 10Gbit/s, across the core infrastructure, is not only essential for the efficient and effective functioning of educational institutions on a day-to-day basis, but also enhances the capabilities for teaching and learning in the region.
Phil Mullan, UK MD for Easynet Global Services said, “Education has the potential to enlighten and inspire people with the pursuit of knowledge. Information technology can be an invaluable facilitator of this quest, and our network helps make this happen.”
Tim Kidd, Head of Operations at JANET(UK), commented ‘Easynet has provided us with a cost effective networking solution for education and research in the East of England. This will enable both JANET and E2BN to better serve the needs of our customers and ensure they enjoy enhanced bandwidth capabilities, shared services and good value for money’.
